These revolving lanterns suspended from lamp-posts were based on the principle of shadow theatre.
During the day, the object looks like a decorative metal lantern.
In the evening, the lantern becomes illuminated and characters appear, the lamp rotates, and the characters turn in an endless promenade.
Light means shadow. I remember the shadow plays that fascinated me as a child and, more recently, I have had the opportunity to participate in a shadow play training course. I was longing for the opportunity to create a project using this effect. I was delighted to have the chance to create this creation for Verbier, particularly as it allowed me to realise my dream of hand-drawing the characters, after too long spent using a mouse instead of a pencil.
Excited at the prospect of drawing by hand, I put forward six themed scenes based around the mountains and typical winter activities.
